Urban Solutions

Civitas helps cities achieve more sustainable development by implementing and evaluating ambitious and technology oriented urban reforms, supported by policy research. Civitas’ Urban Planning and Development division facilitates the integrated growth of a city to meet the standard living conditions of the emerging world. It helps cities across developing nations to connect quality of life with the urban environment.

For the first time in human history, more than half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. Demographic projections suggest this figure could rise to well over 60 per cent over the next two decades, and the developing world is the locus in which this demographic transformation will have its greatest impact. This exponential growth will be most visible in Africa and Asia, where the urban population is anticipated to double over the next two decades. It is now considered a key element in promoting economic growth, if well managed. Urban areas produce a series of environmental problems arising from the consumption of natural resources and the consequent generation of waste and pollution.
