The Indian Cabinet approved the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy (NDSAP). The policy framework was undertaken by CPPR for the Ministry of Science and Technology. Data which was hitherto lying in the hands of various government departments will be shared with each other and made public. Sharing of data was a humongous task which will now be tackled through digitisation of data in standard formats and creating networks for sharing such data. This will be a step ahead from Right to Information which required information to be provided to the public. However, pro-active disclosure of information was not effective till date. The current Data Sharing policy enables disclosure of information by the government to enable innovation and help the public in taking informed decisions. Further, various department of the government will now be able to get statistics and qualitative data from other departments which will help improve governance.
